The criteria for these awards are based on the student’s academic merit and financial need. One of the most important factors that students must consider is the means test, which is a test used to determine if they are eligible for financial assistance.

Basic Requirements

  • You must be a South African citizen residing in the Western Cape province.
  • You must have completed your high school education in the province or be currently enrolled in a school that offers a full-time undergraduate program.
  • In 2023, you must meet the requirements for your chosen field of study.
  • You must meet the means test to be considered a “missing middle” family.
  • A family with two children can expect to receive a monthly income of less than R18 000, and this can increase to R2000 for each child.
  • You must not have lost funding due to poor performance.
  • This bursary will only be available to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Students from disadvantaged backgrounds will be considered for this program if they have already secured a university entrance despite attending a school that is considered to be “dysfunctional”.

Partial bursary provides financial cover for a portion of the student’s education expenses, such as tuition fees, books, and registration fees. The amount varies depending on the institution. Students are also encouraged to apply for other scholarships or loans to help with the balance of their fees.

Students will receive financial support for their undergraduate studies if they maintain good grades. They must then apply for funding each year.

Although ASSET bursaries are not repayable, recipients should join the Alumni Association to give back to the organization after they graduate.
