The South Africa Department of Education is inviting students to apply for the Funza Lushaka Teaching Bursary 2022/2023 Program, which is a prestigious award for those who are studying to become teachers. Every year, the department chooses a group of students to receive the bursary.
Information About The Funza Lushaka Bursary

If you have a criminal record, you might not be able to apply for the bursary. Also, if you have been dismissed from work, you might not be eligible to receive the award.
The department of education also prohibits the allocation of the bursary to the spouse, children, or other relatives of employees of higher education institutions.
Non-disclosure of certain information about yourself will be treated as fraud. To be eligible, students should not be older than 30 years old and should not have any teaching qualifications. They must complete an online application and submit it with all the necessary documents.
One type of qualification is also available for funding. It must meet the requirements of the department and allow the student to specialize in at least two priority subjects.
Only South African residents are allowed to apply for the bursary. They must have either been admitted into a tertiary institution or a study program that is approved by a recognized higher education institution. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must also meet the national selection criteria.

The Funza Lushaka bursary provides full scholarships to the student, and they cover various expenses such as tuition, room, books, and meals. The student’s monthly allowance is also limited to a certain amount. The IES are also charging a certain amount, and the treasurers must supplement their own funds.
The total cost of a scholarship varies depending on the institution and the type of program that the student is enrolled in. South African residents are only eligible for the bursary if they have a valid South African ID book.
To be eligible for the Funza Lushaka bursary, applicants must meet the institution’s admission requirements and submit their national selection criteria.
Selection criteria include the following
Academic ability of the candidate; Eligibility for an accredited degree or PGCE in two of the priority areas;
A commitment to teaching is a vital component of any successful career in education. It involves developing a passion for working with young people and overcoming personal integrity issues.
Commitment to teach in any school where a PED may assign a pupil.
All candidates should be considered for the bursary if they are from rural areas and have the necessary financial resources to teach in these areas. Only two of the specialized subjects will be included in the qualification.
The selection committee should consider all aspects when it comes to choosing candidates for the bursary, including their financial position and their desire to teach in rural areas. Only the two subjects that are included in the qualification will be eligible for the bursary.
Program to be Funded
One of the most popular types of qualification is the four-year Bachelor of Education degree, which is usually offered in the Foundation Phase. It can be used for teaching in various academic subjects.
One-year postgraduate certificate in education is also available for those who have already completed their degree programs. This type of qualification allows students to focus on two priority subjects.
Only the postgraduate certificate in education program for senior phase and further education and training, teaching is funded through the bursary scheme.
Applications must only be submitted once a student has been allocated a valid university number and has been accepted or provisionally accepted at their chosen university.
All applications must be submitted online at the Funza Lushaka website here: http://www.funzalushaka.doe.gov.za/. The closing date for these applications is March 31. Students should also submit supporting documents to the Funza Lushaka Bursary office.
