The South African Government offers free online courses for unemployed – How to apply?

Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, has urged unemployed youngsters to take advantage of the opportunity to enroll in free online courses.

As part of its efforts to combat youth unemployment, the ministry has partnered with the online educational portal Coursera to provide free courses for young people.

“As a government, our goal is to remove as many barriers as possible, allowing young people to pursue their dreams and career goals.” As a result, we encourage them to take advantage of these chances,” Ndabeni-Abrahams said on Tuesday.

The National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA), an agency of the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, will organize and facilitate the registration process for these courses.

“The collaboration is consistent with the Minister’s promise in her 2018 Budget Vote Speech to teach one million individuals in data science and associated skills, ensuring that they take advantage of opportunities afforded by emerging digital technologies,” the Ministry stated.

The Minister emphasized the importance of young people learning digital skills because they are necessary for inclusion in the digital economy.

According to the Ministry, this collaboration has the potential to provide young people with the necessary skills in this digital era.

Among the free courses are data science, coding, app development, digital marketing, and artificial intelligence.

The courses range in length from four to eight weeks. Although a high school diploma is preferred, it is not required. The ability to use the internet and be digitally literate are required.
