About NSFAS Bursary

The NSFAS is a government-funded scheme that provides financial assistance to students who do not have enough money to pay for their studies. To apply, students must first complete an online application. The closing date for applications is at the end of the year.

What do NSFAS covers?

The amount of living allowance, accommodation, transportation, and learning materials that are indicated in the approved guidelines for the Department of Health and Education (DHE) should be aligned with the latest standards.

1. University

The cost of accommodation is computed according to the university’s requirements. For instance, the monthly living allowance for students is R15, 000, while the book allowance for students is R5200. On top of that, there are other expenses such as transportation and personal care.

2. TVET

An accommodation in an urban area cost R24, 000 per annum, while an accommodation in a peri-urban area costs R18, 900. On the other hand, transport costs R15, 750 in a rural area and R7000 for an urban area.

Who must not apply for NSFAS?

This program is for students who have already completed a qualification and are financially qualified. They are also eligible to receive funding. These students are required to meet the academic requirements in order to receive the scholarship.

Who is eligible to apply NSFAS bursary?

South African citizens are eligible to apply for the NSFAS funding program. To be considered for this program, an individual must have a household income of not less than R350 000 annually. In the case of students with disabilities, the combined annual income may not exceed 600 000. 30 percent of the applicants have received a decision within a couple of minutes after completing the application process through the myNSFAS Portal.

The list of eligible students who are expected to pursue studies in public universities and TVET colleges under the National Science Foundation’s (NSFAS) funding program was released today. The list contains the names of those who are eligible for the program.

To apply NSFAS for TVET funding you will need to provide the following:

  • These include a birth certificate.
  • Identity document (id).
  • Latest academic results.
  • Proof of parents’ income, if they are employed, and death certificates, if they are deceased.

How To Apply for NSFAS Bursary Online?

NSFAS Funding Application

1. To apply for NSFAS you need to first register online as a user on myNSFAS / re-register a myNSFAS account

  • Please go to the NSFAS website by visiting: www.nsfas.org.za
  • Click on “myNSFAS” TAB
  • Then Click on “Register
  • Mark / Tick the box to allow NSFAS to verify your documents / details
  • After that then you can enter your “ID number” on the space
  • Type in your “Full names and surname” as appear on your ID book
  • Then follow by typing your email address
  • Confirm your email address
  • Then type your cell phone number which is active
  • Create your password (Please don’t forget the password)
  • Confirm it (password)
  • Upload your ID copy
  • Then click on Register
  • After that an OTP will be sent to your cell phone number and email address (Kindly note that the
  • OPT will expire after 24 hours)
  • Type in OPT, then click submit button
  • Then you have completed the registration

2. After completing the registration process, you will be directed to the online application form. This will allow you to start the application process.
