Sassa Beneficiaries Are Being Urged To Renew Their Expired Gold Cards.

Postbank and SASSA have issued gold cards that allow grant recipients to make free transactions at retailers and ATMs in South Africa. The cards also prevent them from getting charged on the first three transactions.

In order to ensure that recipients of grants have the latest SASSA/Postbank cards, the agency has urged them to visit their local Post Office branches.

On March 13, 2023, all grant recipients will be able to collect their new gold cards at the Post Office branches.

The new cards will only be issued to the individuals whose names are on the expiring cards. The agency also warned that anyone who wants to use another person’s card must first be registered with Sassa.

Beneficiaries can pick up their new gold cards on the dates listed below:

  • Mondays and Tuesdays (beginning Monday, March 13, 2023) will be dedicated to the distribution of cards to beneficiaries of Old Age Payments and those receiving Disability Grants.
  • Wednesday through Saturday (beginning March 15, 2023) will be dedicated to the gathering of new gold cards by recipients of Child Support Grants and recipients of all other awards.

The following are the hours of operation for Post Office branches:

  • Monday to Friday: 08:00 AM – 16:00 PM
  • Saturday: 09:00 am – 13:00 pm
  • Sunday: Closed

These items must be brought with the grant recipients when they collect:

  • A South African Identity Document.
  • SASSA/Postbank Gold Card, which expires in March 2023 (03/2023).

To activate the new cards, please contact the Post Office branch nearest you. They will then provide you with a new PIN and allow you to make transactions immediately.

After March 2023, the old gold cards of grant recipients will no longer be accepted. To replace them, they must go to the nearest Post Office branch.

According to Sassa, the beneficiaries will be issued with a new SASSA or Postbank Gold Card using fingerprint verification.

Despite the expiration of their gold cards, grant recipients should not be worried as they will still be able to receive their payments.

However, grant recipients who have their old cards that are not yet expiring in March are advised not to visit the Post Office to collect new cards.

Postbank and Sassa also said they will be announcing the dates and procedures for the collection of old gold cards that are set to end in later months.
