Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana are back in South Africa and in prison.
During a press briefing in Cape Town, the police and justice ministers confirmed that Thabo Bester, who is a convicted murderer, and his accomplice, Nandipha Magudumana, were apprehended in Tanzania over the weekend.
In May 2022, Bester escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre. A number of people have been arrested for their involvement in his escape. Some of these include Senohe Matsoara and Zolile Sekeleni. Tebogo Lipholo is a CCTV technician.
According to Bheki Cele, the police minister, Magudumana was able to assist authorities in Tanzania but Bester refused to cooperate. He and Bester are currently being held at a correctional facility in Pretoria. Both are expected to appear in court on Thursday.
According to the police commissioner, Magudumana will face various charges, including murder, fraud, and aiding and abetting an escape. He was also allegedly in possession of numerous dead bodies.
Magudumana visited Bester while he was in prison. Following Bester’s fake death in a prison fire, which he staged, Magudumana took his possessions from the prison and also collected the body.
Ronald Lamola, the Minister of Justice, commended the government of Tanzania on its collaboration in the execution of the arrests and deportation of Bester, Magudumana, and a Mozambican national. DM
